KNUTSFORD Lions are putting a special twist on this year’s fair, marking the global organisation’s centenary year by moving celebrations onto a bigger venue.

The Lions have hosted an annual street fair in King Street since 1990, and this year – the 100th since the first Lions club opened in Chicago – will see the occasion marked between 11am and 4pm on Bank Holiday Monday, May 29, on The Heath.

As well as charity and trade stalls, live music, and a children’s activity area, other Lions clubs from across the country will be turning up for the occasion.

Among the guests from other clubs will be members dressed in full lion costume, with Knutsford#s BFG star Ruby Barnhill set to judge a Big Friendly Lion competition.

Those present will be able to try their hand at traditional street fair competitions such as welly-wanging and tug-of-war, with aPrettiest Pooch competition covering three classes – waggiest tail, prettiest pooch and pooch most like their owner.

Knutsford Lion Clive Heath, the event’s main organiser, said: “We are very grateful to Tatton Estate for allowing us to use The Heath for the Lions’ centenary celebration.

“The Lions would love to have your support on this grand occasion, so why not join them in welly wanging, tug-of-war, showing your prettiest pooch, or just to have a drink and lots of fun.”

With children’s attractions set to include a fairground, donkey rides, games and face painting, refreshments such as the Scout’s barbecue, artisan coffee and pizza and beers will be available alongside an ice cream van and Mr Simms sweet stall.

Sponsors have also given generously to the Grand Centenary Raffle, with 25 prizes lined up.
