ALDI has recalled its vanilla extract product over nut allergy fears.

The Madagascan Vanilla Extract has been sold in Aldi stores, however it is in fact an almond extract with the wrong label.

A spokesman for Aldi said: "As a precautionary measure we are recalling a single batch of Moroccan Almond Extract as it has been incorrectly labelled as Madagascan Vanilla Extract.

"The product contains almond which is a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to almonds.

“Customers are asked to return this product to the nearest store, where a full refund will be given.

“We apologise for any inconvenience and thank you for your co-operation.”

The batch number is L 7058.

The Food Standards Agency advises people to return the product as it poses a health risk to people with nut allergies.

A Food Standards Agency spokesman said: "This product contains almond making it a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy to nuts.

"If you have bought the above product and have an allergy to nuts, do not use it. Instead return it to the store from where it was bought for a full refund."
