BUSINESS director Sam Rushworth is contesting the Tatton constituency for Labour.

Sam, 33, lives in Wilmslow with his wife, Siobhain, and their son and three daughters, who attend the Wilmslow Academy.

He is director of a Wilmslow-registered small business that delivers research and consultancy services to charities and other institutions working on education, children and youth, peace-building and human rights.

Sam recently completed a PhD in Education and International Development, with the University of East Anglia, where he was also an associate tutor.

In the past Sam has worked as a lecturer at Macclesfield College; managed a youth service for a disability charity and worked on a senior management team of the British Red Cross over an area that included its Knutsford offices in Cheshire.

Sam first volunteered for the Labour Party as a young teenager in 1997, when Labour won a landslide victory under Tony Blair.

In 2015, Sam was Labour candidate for the marginal seat of Blackpool North and Cleveleys where he grew up, but this time has chosen to represent Labour in the area he is raising his own family.

Sam said: “Labour will build a million new affordable homes for young people to rent or buy; legislate to ensure privately rented homes are a good standard and fair rent; cut university tuition fees; reintroduce maintenance allowances for college students and ensure our schools get the funding they need.”

Sam’s agent for the election will be eighteen-year-old Angus Reilly from Barnton. Together they hope to engage young people in the political process and encourage them to register and vote.
