THE resident lead on the neighbourhood plan’s sports and leisure team is urging Knutsfordians to make their voices heard in Cheshire East Council’s consultation on facilities in the borough.

Debbie Jamison, who is leading a four-pronged attempt to bolster the town’s sport pitches and spaces, wants residents to tell the council what is needed.

A consultation on potential upgrades and improvements across east Cheshire is open on the council’s website until May 30.

Debbie, who has called for CEC to appoint a designated portfolio holder for sport and leisure, said: “It clearly states that east Cheshire has a lack of playing pitches.

“Over the years the local authorities have under invested in leisure centres, and there are needs and opportunities to be addressed in Knutsford. “The survey is very easy to fill in and I would ask members of the public to contribute in the section ‘what do you think about the Knutsford area?’.

“The difficult bit is reading the background material. There are four papers – two each for the separate types of facilities, playing pitch strategy and indoor built facilities.

“Choose the version called strategy as this is an easier read and has the specific actions. Please simply state support for those listed and add in any others that you think are missing.”

The working group’s key priorities are leisure centre and swimming pool improvements, a permanent home for Knutsford Rugby Club, improvements to key venues in Mereheath Lane, protecting open space and smaller venues, and looking for new opportunities.

Knutsford’s sports clubs, key landowners and planning agents have been part of the group’s meetings since its inception in March 2016.

It is also working on consultation comments made during a neighbourhood plan survey last year.
