Knutsford 0-2 Denton Town
IN the end, Knutsford have handed over their Cheshire League title after offering little resistance.
This was a third defeat in their past four matches, and Reds have failed to score in any of them as they slip to seventh in the Premier Division table.
Before kick-off against Rylands tonight, Wednesday, they trail leaders Whaley Bridge by 16 points.
Scott Dignan’s side, with six different starters from their previous game, struggled to contain striker Gavin Salmon last weekend.
He headed narrowly off-target with an early header early, then fired high shortly afterwards.
Knutsford created little, save for Liam Myers nodding wide, before Tom Murray opened the scoring for Denton with a splendid volley from distance.
Lee Mannion went close in the second half, while Myers drilled too close to goalkeeper Martyn White after David Owens conjured an opening.
Alex Mattison could not convert a rebound after the custodian blocked another Mannion attempt before Salmon kept calm to slot a decisive goal for Denton after robbing Steve Jenyons of possession.
Needing a response, Knutsford could not muster one despite Dignan introducing Alex Crowe and Tom Rutter as substitutes.
Eagle are their guests at Manchester Road this Saturday, kick off 3pm.
Knutsford | Moore (GK), Maunder, Lynch, Jenyons, Brotherton, Beattie (Crowe 58), Mannion, Rezayan, Owens, Myers, Mattison (Rutter 70)
