CHESHIRE Police has reopened the A537 between the Chelford roundabout and Monks Heath crossroads following a serious crash this morning.

Officers were alerted to reports of a collision involving a white Ford pickup truck and a white Vauxhall Vivaro van at 7.20am today, April 25.

Two casualties - one in each of the vehicles involved - were left trapped and later released from their vehicles by firefighters.

The driver of the pickup truck, a 21-year-old man from Congleton, was taken to Wythenshawe Hospital by ambulance.

The driver of the van, a 44-year-old woman from Neston, was taken to the Royal Stoke Hospital by air ambulance.

Police had closed the road in both directions until 2.20pm while officers dealt with the collision, and villagers have described the incident as 'large scale'.

Marthall Tree Products, a business based in Chelford Road, tweeted: "Large scale accident on the Chelford road between Monks Heath lights and Chelford roundabout. Please avoid if possible."

A Cheshire Police spokesman said: "Enquiries into the cause of the collision are currently ongoing and anyone with any information in relation to the incident is asked to contract Cheshire Police on 101 quoting incident number 97 of 25/4/2017.
