TATTON Tories have confirmed the three candidates shortlisted to replace George Osborne and contest the snap General Election in June.

The Tatton Conservative Association will select its candidate on Wednesday, April 26, with Trafford Council deputy leader Cllr Alex Williams, Northern Powerhouse champion Katherine Fletcher, and former Wirral West MP Esther McVey in the running.

The party currently holds a majority of 18,241 in Tatton.

Cllr Williams, who is a chartered accountant and director at Ernst and Young, contested the Bury South seat in 2005 and Stretford and Urmston in 2010.

He is married to former Trafford leader Baroness Susan Williams, a Home Office minister of state.

Former safari ranger Ms Fletcher, of Knutsford, took over as interim strategy lead of the Northern Powerhouse partnership in January. She fought the Ellesmere Port and Neston seat in 2015.

Ms McVey enjoyed a career in television in the 1990s and 2000s, before serving as Wirral West MP from 2010 to 2015, having previously contested the seat in 2005.

During her time in Westminster, the Liverpudlian served as a minister of state from employment from October 2013.

The General Election will take place on June 8.

Gareth Wilson, from Mobberley, will be standing for the Liberal Democrats, with High Legh man Nigel Hennerley named as the Green Party candidate.

The Labour Party candidate is yet to be announced.
