THE state of the roads managed by Cheshire East Council are a lot better than the national average, according to the Department for Transport.

Statistics recently published the DoT show the percentage of unclassified roads – those that are not M, A or B roads – in each local authority, which should be considered for maintenance.

Eight per cent of the roads managed by Cheshire East Council are highlighted.

The national average 17 per cent.

The highest numbers for local authorities in the north west are Manchester and Stockport with 18 per cent and Cumbria with 17 per cent of its roads needing possible maintenance.
