A HORSE has died after becoming stuck in mud in a High Legh field yesterday.
Fire crews were called to Wrenshot Lane just after 11am on Monday, March 21, to reports of a horse named Murphy on its side in mud.
Two Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service vehicles from Knutsford, a fire engine from Birchwood and one from Stockton Heath attended the incident.
A spokesman said: "Murphy was sedated by a vet and the crew used specialist animal rescue equipment to get the horse back on to firm ground and to its feet.
"Sadly, despite the best efforts of the crews and the vet, Murphy did not survive."
