POLICE have arrested a 27-year-old man today in connection with a hit and run collision in Holmes Chapel.

Cheshire Police received reports of an elderly man with serious injuries outside the library in London Road at 6.30pm yesterday (March 17).

One fire engine from Holmes Chapel attended the scene, where the vehicle involved had failed to stop.

Police and paramedics also attended the scene, before the man was taken to North Staffordshire Hospital in a very serious condition.

He died a short time later, and specially trained officers are currently supporting his family.

The 27-year-old man remains in custody and is assisting officers with their investigation.

Police are continuing to appeal for information on the incident.

Sgt Neil Farnworth said: “If you were in the London Road area around that time and have seen anything significant or have any information, which could assist with our enquiries, please get in touch.

"This is a busy road at a busy time of day and someone must have seen or heard something."
