HOLMES Chapel Road is to remain closed today as work continues to repair the collapsed carriageway on the A50.

Cheshire East Council and United Utilities are repairing two collapsed drains, which have been damaged as a result of past third party works.

The road will remain fully closed today, with CEC highways hoping to reopen it at the earliest opportunity.

The diversion along Seven Sisters Lane, Chelford Road (A537) and Adams Hill remains in place.

A spokesman for CEC highways said: "We are aware of the traffic issues that these essential works are causing in the Knutsford area.

"Temporary traffic signals are located on the diversion route at the junction of Seven Sisters Lane and Chelford Road for safety reasons and these will continue to be manually operated during peak travel hours to help minimise the congestion.

"Cheshire East highways and United Utilities apologise for the inconvenience caused by this complex issue.

"Public safety is our absolute priority and we will reopen this road when it is appropriate to do so.

"We advise road users to leave additional time for their journey and avoid the area if possible."
