KNUTSFORD Heritage Centre will hold its AGM later this month, alongside a talk on tracing family history.

Joan Irving, librarian of the Family History Society of Cheshire – which has a research centre in the Rajar Building in Mobberley – will deliver the ‘Delve into Your Past’ talk at the meeting on Tuesday, March 21, offering tips on how to get started.

Val Bryant, Knutsford Heritage Centre director and trustee, said: “Our AGM presents the appropriate occasion for cementing an important and valuable link between the Heritage Centre and the Family History Society of Cheshire’s research facilities in Mobberley.

“We are often asked for help by visitors who want to know more about their ancestry. As well as people who live in the area, a surprising number come from other parts of the country – and abroad – who have family connections with Knutsford.

“The Heritage Centre itself has diverse collection of thousands of catalogued documents, artefacts and other items relating to the town’s history. Our archives cover businesses, families, traditions and properties. Some are extensive – for example the Centre houses the Royal May Day records.

“We can help, but in many cases what we have represents the next step after first compiling a family tree and gathering other information about individual members of past generations.

“This is where the Family History Society of Cheshire can assist. We are delighted to provide a platform for making their activities and resources more widely known.”

The AGM with be held at the Heritage Centre in King Street on at 6.45pm on March 21, and is open to all who wish to attend.
