UPDATE: M6 slip road towards Knutsford reopens following hydrochloric acid spill

Our live feed has now finished.

  • TRAFFIC has come to a standstill after a lorry spilled 'fluid' on the M6 slip road at Junction 19 for Knutsford.
  • Firefighters were called to the scene just before 10am this morning after reports of an 'overturned lorry' on the slip road from the M6 northbound up towards Knutsford.
  • Crews have confirmed that the lorry has not overturned but a fluid spillage has caused them to close the roundabout at Junction 19 resulting in major delays on the northbound carriage and the A556 southbound towards Knutsford.
  • The Environment Agency is now investigating the incident, with some reports suggesting that the liquid is hydrochloric acid.
  • Highways Agency estimates that the traffic will return to normal by 1pm.
