TWO people who have worked tirelessly to promote the unique landscape of Alderley Edge will share a platform next month.

Professor John Prag, coordinator of the Alderley Edge Landscape Project, and author Alan Garner will speak at the annual lecture organised by the Friends of Blackden Trust at 3pm on Saturday, March 11.

The Story of Alderley – Life on the Edge will be delivered by Prof Prag and introduced by Alan, whose books were inspired by the area, at Terra Nova School in Holmes Chapel.

Jill Gover, event organiser, said: “Alderley Edge is such a wonderful place and the inspiration for so much of Alan’s writing, and so it’s most appropriate that it is the subject of our annual Blackden Trust lecture.

“Tickets are limited and so I am sure they will sell out very quickly.”

Alan’s discovery of a wooden shovel which was originally found by minders on the Edge, alongside the finding of more than 500 Roman coins, inspired the creation of the Alderley Edge Landscape Project.

Prof Prag, honorary professor at Manchester Museum and professor emeritus of classics at the University of Manchester, will outline his work on the project to the audience.

The event will also give guests the chance to find out more about the work of Friends of the Blackden Trust volunteers, who are based at the Old Medicine House, in Holmes Chapel.

Jill added: “The Friends of the Blackden Trust is a group of volunteers who fundraise and support events in The Old Medicine House and on site in many practical ways, from making the tea to leading tours of the house and assisting with courses for schoolchildren and students.

“If anyone feels they have the time and would like to become a volunteer, we would be pleased to hear from them.”

Tickets cost £10, and are available by emailing Brian Rick on brianrich457@btinternet.com for a booking form, or by calling 01538 384713.
