IS it a plane? Is it a star?

Clear skies last night meant many people gazing at the moon may have spotted a bright light just below it.

Professor Brian Cox took to Twitter to reveal the answer.

During January, Venus will reach its peak height above the horizon, according to the Beckstrom Observatory.

It will also see the distance between Mars and Venus get smaller as Venus gets higher each night.

There was also a chance last night of spotting Mars and Neptune and this morning stargazers were advised to look again before the sun came up as they may also be able to spot Jupiter.

Did you see Venus last night?
