Keswick 2-2 Knutsford

KNUTSFORD had mixed feelings after they returned from a trip to Cumbria with a share of the spoils from a meeting with the league’s leaders.

The Black Knights let slip a two-goal advantage, leaving captain Dave Price in rueful mood.

“A draw is probably a fair result, but we’ve some questions to find an answer to if we’re going to reach our potential,” he said.

He almost pinched a winner for the visitors late on, but could not make contact with Keelan Sherwani’s cross at the back post.

They had been slow to start the game, and stayed on terms thanks to goalkeeper Mal Wright organising a back four that held strong despite the hosts pressing high up the pitch.

Knutsford gradually played their way into the contest, and took the lead when Sherwani burst up the left flank before he cut inside and sent the ball past Keswick’s goalkeeper.

Near misses from set pieces prevented the visitors from doubling their advantage before the break.

They started the second half promisingly too, and Price made it 2-0 when he converted at the end of a short-corner routine.

Further opportunities to score went begging before Keswick started a recovery, and they hit the net twice in quick succession to punish lapses in concentration.

The Black Knights, victors now in only one of their past four North West Men’s League fixtures, occupy fifth place in the Division One table.

They head to Didsbury Northern’s seconds, who ran out 3-2 winners at Westfield Drive last month, this Saturday.

Push back is at 12.30pm.
