AN ICONIC Plumley pub has reopened its doors to the public following a refurbishment as part of a £1 million investment.

The Golden Pheasant, in Plumley Moor Road, opened its doors on Sunday, November 13 following a preview evening for regulars and locals on November 12.

Guests were invited to tour the remodelled pub to see the new bar, dining areas and bedrooms. The focus of the work was to ‘retain the existing charm of the building’s features whilst modernising it into a contemporary environment.’

The pub is now more of an open plan design and there has been the addition of three new bedrooms, meaning the building now has nine bedrooms including four poster, super king, family and twin rooms.

Phil Dodd, General Manager of the Golden Pheasant, said: “Our aim was to create the best destination inn for miles around. We’ve got the beautiful pub we hoped for, blending the charm of the old building with the contemporary touches imagined by our designers.

“The feedback from the community has been fantastic and we’d like to thank our regulars and locals for their support. We have been working with the people of Plumley to create a calendar of interesting events, including lots going on for the festive season starting on December 3 with our Christmas lights switch on.”

The pub has been furnished with a mixture of new high quality chairs and tables and a collection of reclaimed ‘retro pieces’ with the four real fires all retained.

Extensive work has been carried out in advance of spring to create covered and heated outdoor eating areas as well as the creation of a large children’s outdoor play area, overlooked by the new large garden room.

The Golden Pheasant is owned by JW Lees of Manchester who, as well as brewing traditional cask ales and lagers run over 150 pubs including The Plough and Flail Mobberley, the Rope and Anchor Dunham Massey and the Greyhound Ashley.

Many of the Lees-Jones family live locally to The Golden Pheasant.

The pub will concentrate on serving quality home cooked food, cask ales and fine wines.
