A COUNCIL-FUNDED project is hoping to inspire more of its residents over the age of 50 to get involved with social singing.

Carers Trust 4 All, a charitable trust focussed on providing support for carers of all ages, and Musical Moments, a specialist music company based in Congleton, are hosting a special singalong session in Knutsford for people across east Cheshire, with financial backing from Cheshire East Council.

Residents from the town and surrounding villages in the borough are encouraged to enjoy ‘singing for pleasure’ and the range of health and social benefits that community singing can offer.

Diane Lomax, Singing Together co-ordinator, said: “You don’t have to be a good singer to come and join in, all we need is your enthusiasm.

“This great initiative is available to anyone over 50- the more the merrier. Sometimes people who are suffering from mild dementia like to take part, because it’s something that is still possible to do.

Diane is hoping to reach out to other community groups such as Peaks and Plains, Age UK Cheshire East and the Stroke Association, to talk to them about getting people involved in community singing.

The Christmas session, which is free of charge, will take place on Thursday, December 8 from 1.45pm at Knutsford Town Council offices- which have been offered by the town council to help support the session.
