HOLMES Chapel Community Centre has been officially opened to the public by Paralympic gold medallists.

Sophie Thornhill and Megan Giglia, both Paralympic cyclists attended the centre in Station Road on Saturday, November 12 to cut the ceremonial tape.

The centre has been delivered as a partnership project from Holmes Chapel Parish Council and Everybody Sport and Recreation.

Andrew Kolker, Chairman of Everybody Sport and Recreation, said: “The Holmes Chapel Community Centre is a shining example of what can be achieved by an excellent partnership between an ambitious Parish Council and the Leisure Trust.

“I would like to thank the people of Holmes Chapel, without their faith in the Parish Council and without their patience, their support this community centre would never have been started let alone got to where it is today.”

Holmes Chapel Community Centre now provides community and function rooms which are available to hire for a range of meetings, conferences, social events and much more.

There is also a ‘Taste for Life’ cafe bar and the Everybody Academy training suite.

David Savage, chairman of the parish council said: “I never thought I would meet an Olympic Gold medallist, so to meet two is a great honour. I would personally like to thank you two for making my day and for also agreeing to come and open this new centre for us and taking the time to come.

“Within the next few years we are going to have a significant increase in the population, so at least we have a new facility whereby people who are moving into the village, will have somewhere to go, somewhere to relax.”

The open day included a range of activities available for the whole family, such as smoothie making, paint bikes, save a life taster sessions provided by the Everybody Academy, refreshments and catering from Taste for Life and stalls which were provided by the community.
