A TEENAGER who is described by his coach as a role model for younger players to look up to has been rewarded for his efforts.

Oliver Turner received the Junior of the Year prize at Knutsford Tennis Club’s presentation evening.

“The kids here all have great admiration for Oli,” said head coach Mark Airey.

“He combines a great passion for the sport with an infectious personality, and is a credit to both the club and his parents.”

Helen Sawyer, chairman of the tennis section at Mereheath Lane, handed to Turner his award during a ceremony that saw more than 40 trophies presented.

A student at Knutsford Academy, he matches the achievement of older brother Lenny who was nominated last year.

Turner, 17, has made the transition to Knutsford’s senior teams this year.

He has also become an assistant coach to Airey during practice sessions for boys and girls every Friday.

“Oli has become an invaluable member, helping the juniors to develop while also integrating himself in senior tennis,” added Airey.

“It was good for me to see so many parents and kids celebrating their achievements on court during 2016 – the turnout was great.”

He plans to run a camp during the school holidays next week.

Starting on Monday, it finishes on Thursday.
