A SCOUT group in Knutsford fundraising for a new headquarters has thanked the town's Rotarians for a donation that could help in seeing their dream turned into a reality.

1st Knutsford Scouts launched its bid to build a new £180,000 centre on the Moor last year.

And the group's bid was boosted when Knutsford Rotary Club announced that funds raised at its annual jog this year would be donated to Scouts in Knutsford.

In total, £6,000 has been handed over, thanks to the work of the Rotary club and its sponsors, Prima Medica, UPA, Sheldons Dairies and Ultimate Communications.

Mark Jones, Knutsford Rotary Club Jog committee chairman presented a cheque to Michele Hammond of Knutsford Scouts and 1st Knutsford Scouts new HQ coordinator and secretary this week.

Jonathon Hills and Alex Crabbe, cub leaders of 1st Knutsford Scouts, met members of the Rotary Club with many of the children, including girls and boys who took part in the annual rotary club jog on the Moor.

1st Knutsford Scouts will receive more than £3,000 directly towards their new hut with the rest of the money split between other scout groups.

Michelle said: "We are over a third of the way to our target and this massive donation from the Rotary Club gives us a massive moral boost.

"The new HQ will be larger to cater for more children, have lovely vaulted roof space with views over the Moor parkland and be properly heated and ventilated.

"The new HQ will also cater for limited mobility access and toilets. 1st Knutsford Scouts will make the new building available to Girls Guides as well as other charitable organisations and members of the local community."

The date for next year's jog is Sunday, March 19 on the Moor, Knutsford.

Michelle added: "Once the new HQ is built will be able to offer our new building including toilets, drinks and first aid facilities to enhance the already wonderful event. All Knutsford Scouts try to do a good deed every day to help someone and we like to echo the values of the Rotary Club who work tirelessly to combat world famine and poverty."
