KNUTSFORD Heritage Centre celebrated a national art day on Saturday, welcoming one of the town’s international stars.

The centre’s ‘Big Draw’ event on Saturday, October 15 attracted crowds of children who took part in drawing and painting alongside Ruby Barnhill, star of the Steven Spielberg blockbuster, The BFG.

Cllr Jan Nicholson, Knutsford Town Mayor also attended as well as renowned silhouette artist Steve Abbott, who gave art tips to guests.

Val Bryant, heritage centre director, said: “The event was a great success. The Big Draw is the world’s biggest event of its kind. Its purpose is to promote the art of drawing, a skill that’s as fundamental to painting and graphic art as it is to engineering.

“With the enthusiasm and talent shown on Saturday by Knutsford children, drawing with pencils is definitely not going to be a dying art – and of course the skills are of particular value in the world of computer graphics.”
