OLYMPIC cycling champions Jason Kenny and Laura Trott have described their wedding day as 'the happiest day of their life'.

Jason Kenny, 28, confirmed they had tied the knot on Saturday with a tweet which said: "Good morning Mrs Kenny."

It showed a photograph of a smiling Trott, snuggled up in bed with the couple's dogs Sprolo and Pringle - a Springer Spaniel cross and a poodle - at her feet.

Laura, 24, who lives with Jason in Chelford later posted on Instagram: "The happiest day of my life. With all my family and close friends I married my best friend. We had the most amazing day and I'm so pleased to finally be able call Jason my husband."

Instead of gifts the couple are asking for donations to Dementia UK as both their grandmothers suffered from the disease.

Laura is a four-time Olympic champion for Team GB after retaining the team pursuit and women's omnium titles in Rio which she won at London 2012.

Jason now has seven Olympic track sprint medals to his name, six of which are gold, which means he is tied as holder of the most titles for a Briton alongside former team-mate Sir Chris Hoy.

The couple managed to keep their wedding out of the media spotlight and there were even suggestions that it might take place next year.

Laura's proud father Adrian also wrote on Sunday: "So pleased to announce that my darling daughter @LauraTrott31 married @JasonKenny107 yesterday. Thank you to everyone. A wonderful day."

Friend and fellow cyclist Dani King, who won gold with Laura in the women's team pursuit at London 2012, was among the bridesmaids along with Laura's sister Emma.

Dani described it as the 'most perfect day', while wedding guest Joanna Rowsell Shand, who was part of Trott's world record-breaking team which won pursuit gold at Rio 2016, said her friend was 'a beautiful bride'.

Laura said 'it wasn't love at first sight' when she first met Kenny, because he never spoke to her in training.

Their romance became public by accident. They were spotted kissing in the crowd as they sat behind ex-footballer David Beckham at the beach volleyball on Horse Guards Parade during the London 2012 Games.

A message of congratulations was sent from officials at St Alban & St Paul Church in Macclesfield, Cheshire, where the couple got married.

The reception was held at the Hilltop Country House, just outside the Prestbury Village in Cheshire.

The hotel shared images of the scene inside the marquee which had been decorated with pink and white paper lanterns hanging from the netted ceiling.

It show's Sir Chris and his wife Sarra looking on as the couple hold hands and take to the dancefloor.

In a Facebook post, the hotel said: "While the whole country was talking about the Bake Off tent, Laura Trott &Jason Kenny were sharing their first dance in ours."
