STAFF from a Knutsford garden centre will take on London’s half marathon to raise money for a children’s charity.

Jill Kerr, nursery export and trade business manager at Fryer’s Roses in Manchester Road, will join Alan Roper, Blue Diamond’s managing director and Richard Henmans , financial director, in the 13 mile run for ‘Phab Kids’.

Phab encourages and supports children and adults with disabilities or who are disadvantaged with more than 170 clubs across England and Wakes providing activities and experiences.

The team is hoping to raise more than £1,000 for the charity.

Jill said: ““ Fryer’s Roses has links with the charity as historically the charity named a rose ‘Phab Gold’ as a way to raise awareness and funds.

“It was through this link that the charity approached me to see whether I would be interested in running in this event.

“Having ran my first ever 10K event earlier in the year, I agreed to give the half marathon a go. I have been motivated by the thought that I am raising money for such a fantastic cause- this has kept me going when training gets painful.

“The Blue Diamond group, which owns Fryer’s, do a tremendous amount to support charities and it is fantastic that the managing director and financial director are also taking part.”

The race takes place in London on Sunday, October 9.

Alan added: “Phab is a fantastic charity and so Blue Diamond are delighted to assist in fundraising and in promoting sales of the” Phab Gold” rose. The team running the half marathon will do their best not only to get around the course but to raise as much money as possible for Phab Kids.”
