DOMINO’S pizza is coming to Knutsford after being granted planning consent by Cheshire East Council.

The American fast-food chain will open in at 5 Toft Road, which is currently occupied by Mr Chips fish and chip shop, although the company is yet to disclose an opening date.

The submitted documents outline plans to replace the shop front, install external compressors for air conditioning and a cold room and to change the back door entrance to allow access for those disabled customers.

The application outlined its plans in detail in the application, which said: “The principal entrance door is fully visible from the counter and a call point will be provided outside the door for the use of mobility-impaired customers to request assistance from a member of staff who will take their order or assist them in entering the premises.

“Given that there is no material change of use or material alteration (other than a replacement door), it is hoped that this will be an acceptable compromise, and an improvement over the current situation. It should also be borne in mind that typically around 80 per cent of a store’s sales are by ‘phone or on-line for home delivery so mobility-impaired customers ordering in this way will not be disadvantaged.”

Despite gaining a mixed response on Facebook, the plans received no objections from member of the public.

Many people took to social media in July when the proposals were first submitted, to express their opinion on having a Dominos in the town.

Martin Williams said: “Babylon pizzas are the best round here, so I won’t be going to a Dominos.”

Whereas some people got excited by the idea of having a franchise on their doorstep.

Tom Evans simply wrote: “I am so excited for this.”

Karen Richardson did not agree with the proposals even suggesting a petition, she wrote: “You can get pizza from Babylon. What’s going to happen to fish and chip Fridays now. I feel a change dot org coming on.”
