A MOBBERLEY woman has made it to the final of Miss Cheshire, and is using her status to help raise funds for poorly children.

Georgia Giblin, 22, of Town Lane, applied to the competition on the advice of her partner after she expressed a desire to fundraise on a larger scale.

The beauty pageant, which judges females from across the county, also requires contestants to raise as much money as they can for a chosen charity- this year being Variety, which provides equipment and other means of support for children living with various disabilities across the country.

Georgia told the Guardian that she is hoping to have raised £800 by January, which is the deadline, however she is already £250 into that target with a number of large fundraisers still to come this year.

“I used to work at a nursery in Knutsford where I cared for a young boy with cerebral palsy,” said Georgia. “Because of this I know what kind of things disabled children need and how difficult it can be to get everything for them.

“I am glad that I am raising money for Variety for that reason. I have done a few fundraisers so far, such as cake sales and a ‘name the bear’ competition and I have organised a quiz night in October which will be held in the Rising Sun in Scholar Green, which is just outside Stoke on Trent.”

Georgia is also climbing Snowdon in September, and has begun training in the gym in preparation for the challenge.

“It was my boyfriend who suggested I run for Miss Cheshire,” she added. “It’s something new and it’s all about beauty with a purpose. It’s not just people prancing around in dresses.

“It gives me a real drive for my fundraising. I also never thought that I would have the confidence to do something like this.”

Georgia will begin her degree in accounting and business at Keele University in September.
