A KNUTSFORD starlet has continued her work with helping to raise funds and awareness for a children’s charity.

Ruby Barnhill, star of Steven Spielberg’s adaptation of The BFG, delighted her young fans when she dropped into a charity event organised by the Children’s Adventure Farm Trust and Manchester children’s charity- Wood Street Mission.

12-year-old Ruby, who plays Sophie in the blockbuster version of the Roald Dahl classic, turned up at the charities’ ‘holiday book club’ at CAFT in Millington, to perform a reading of the novel and sign copies afterwards.

Helen Crowther, fundraiser at the Children’s Adventure Farm Trust said: “We were so excited to be able to offer this special day to the children from Wood Street Mission. It was fantastic to spend time with the children and to see them enjoying reading and book-themed activities, and we were delighted that Ruby could join us to make the day even more magical.

“We’re all so proud of Ruby and very grateful that she and her family are supporting our charity.”

The book club, which took place on Wednesday, August 10, was the highlight of a series of Roald Dahl themed holiday events organised by Wood Street Mission to promote reading and literacy to children and parents in low income families.

Forty children and their parents from Manchester and Salford spent a day on the 10 acre farm feeding alpacas, playing on an adventure playground and taking part in Roald Dahl themed craft activities before going onto the book club after lunch.

Roseanne Sweeney chief executive of Wood Street Mission said: “This was a wonderfully enjoyable day for families, capped by a celebrity story-time, and helped promote the message that reading which is so important for children’s education and development, is fashionable and fun. Thanks so much to Ruby and the Children’s Adventure Farm Trust for giving a lot of young children and their parents a great day.”
