AUCTIONEER Adam Partridge took Canute's Crossing to another level when he took an athletic approach to following in Canute's footsteps across the River Lily.

Adam, who is one of the UK’s best known auctioneers and valuers of antiques and fine art making many TV appearances as well as running his busy auction houses in Macclesfield and Liverpool, was invited by Knutsford Promenades to take part in a recreation of the famous crossing.

He worked in Knutsford for many years before setting up his own auction house and still returns regularly to visit clients in the town.

"I feel honoured and privileged to have been invited by Knutsford Promenades to take part in Canute’s Crossing, albeit on a rainy August day,” said Adam.

"Knutsford is a very special town with a wonderful heritage; it is great to see it celebrated in such a way.”

Julie Tempest, of Knutsford Promenades, added: “"We were slightly worried that Adam might not make it across the Lily as he took the more challenging route by jumping across from the Moor side.

"But he landed safe and dry and became the latest name to sign our Legacy Book which is recording the crossings as part of the celebration of the 1,000 years of history since Canute made his legendary crossing in 1016."

Knutsford Promenades will also be hosting a ‘value your valuables’ event with Adam at Don Giovanni’s restaurant on King Street as part of the Knutsford Heritage Open Days programme on Sunday, September 11.

"There is a hugely impressive selection of events in and around the town from September 8 to 11 and I urge as many people as possible to get involved,” added Adam. “Many thanks to the organisers, sponsors and supporters."
