ORGANISERS of the annual Play Day on the Moor saw a ‘fabulous’ turn out of families taking part in free activities.

In the spirit of National Play Day on Wednesday, August 3, Friends of the Moor provided animals, storytellers, crafts, vehicles and much more to make it an event to remember.

Debbie Jamison, chair of the voluntary group, said that the family fun day showcased ‘tremendous support’ from people and businesses across the town.

“Knutsford Scouts came early in the morning to put up the tent,” she said. “The magnificent team from Knutsford Hosts litter picked, fetched and carried, and manned the gate for two hours to get us set up for the start then did the same again at the end, with Knutsford Town Council ranger joining in too.”

Knutsford Lions kept up an age old tradition of running the game area, which included for the first time this year an outdoor giant jenga and Connect Four plus volleyball and ‘rollaball’, which were all financed by a community grant from Cheshire East Council.

The craft activities all ran with a Viking and King Canute theme, where guests could make their own shields, crowns, helmets and boats.

Mr Simms, Mere Day Nursery and Bikes ‘n’ Gear provided a sweet shop, a ‘messy’ play area and bicycles for guests to ride.

Debbie added: “There is more to come this year. With our orange bike we were pleased to promote the men’s Tour of Britain road cycle race which will travel twice around town on September 6.

“The Knutsford Promenades Canute Crossing event is also on Saturday, September 10 as part of the Heritage open days programme.”
