RECENTLY it appears that George Osborne is being criticised in Tatton.

Having spoken to many local voters, in both private and commercial sectors, the reverse seems to be happening and he is very strongly supported.

There is considerable respect for all the work and help our MP has given – people’s views are very positive and actually appear to be increasing.

It is unfair to say that the time he spends in and around Knutsford is not enough and to say most of his time is spend in London.

From a personal viewpoint I disagree strongly with those comments. Since I first met him – when he was standing for MP at Tatton – I have found him to be very active, particularly in Knutsford and surrounding areas.

He does spend time in the area and indeed his initiative in the north west has been noted in many overseas countries and has already brought many investors to the area.

We should not forget that when he was Chancellor of the Exchequer he represented the UK both at home and overseas. This naturally had taken him abroad for a considerable time every year.

He still took time to come to Knutsford. I have always found him willing to meet and help find a solution if it is in his reach.

For several years he has attended our Export Club meetings where he has given great insight into how overseas business works from a government perspective.

He has personally taken on board individual Export Companies problems and used his office to get help from the UK Embassy in countries such as China and Japan – with successful conclusions.

We need to understand that it must be difficult to balance time overseas as well as between London and Tatton.

In this time of global uncertainty it surely is reasonable that George has to be careful when at meetings and events. Naturally this could give the impression that he is not seen regularly in the some areas.

Because we can’t see him does not mean he is not working for us. I wish him well and hope we see him back in Government very soon.
