TATTON Tory, Cllr Hayley Wells-Bradshaw has said that the Conservatives in Knutsford will do everything possible to reassure the public and prevent ‘destabilisation’ in the town following Brexit.

Speaking to the Guardian, Cllr Wells-Bradshaw said that she was ‘shocked’ and ‘almost couldn’t believe’ the result when Britain voted to leave the EU in Thursday’s referendum.

She also said that she had ‘no doubt’ about George Osborne remaining as MP for Tatton.

“There was never any doubt in my mind that he would stay,” she said. “George is not a quitter.”

“It’s business as usual for the Conservative Party in Tatton. The result is the result and we do have to move forward.

“I think that there is a job to be done to reassure everybody. Whoever the personnel are at the top they are trying to do their best for the country and the local councillors are trying to do their best for Knutsford."

Cllr Wells-Bradshaw said that it would not be her personal choice to be leaving the EU, and she was a ‘strong remainer’, campaigning in the months leading up to the referendum.

“I was surprised that Cheshire East voted to leave,” she added. “However, at the count from Macclesfield, I had a feeling that although it was a remain result there, the margin was not large enough to overtake the rest.”

"It was so close and the national result was so close that half are very happy and half are very shocked and possibly a bit fearful."
