HOLMES Chapel’s neighbourhood plan is well underway following the end of the six week public consultation.

After receiving a ‘large’ response from the general public, developers and landowners, the plan has now been drafted.

The next stage will see the plan reviewed by the steering group, who will decide whether changes needed to be made.

Brian Bath, chairman of the neighbourhood plan steering group, said: “We are very pleased with the response to the consultation and the valuable comments made.

“These will allow us to ensure the revised plan takes into account any new issues raised.”

All of the comments will be reviewed and logged, and any decisions will be recorded and made available on the parish council website.

Once the plan has been revised it will be submitted to Cheshire East Council who will carry out a further level of consultation called ‘regulation 16’ after which the plan will be subject to independent examination prior to a local referendum within Holmes Chapel.

The consultation period ran from April 30 to June 10, during which time council sought representations from statutory consultees, residents and anyone else who may be affected by the proposals.

Policies outlined in the plan include housing, community and wellbeing, countryside and environment, employment and skills and finally traffic and transport.

On the often controversial topic of housing, the draft plan said: “All housing development will be expected to deliver a range of housing from smaller starter units of one to two bedrooms to larger, three or more bedroom properties.

“New homes on developments of ten or more should be limited to one-third detached two or three storey properties, the remainder being flats, bungalows, terraced or semi-detached.

“This mix of house types must support a sustainable neighbourhood and meet the needs of a diverse range of household types and incomes and foster community cohesion.”
