MATT Nowell, a former junior member at Weaver Valley Cycling Club, was a convincing winner in the latest round of the Guardian Cup 10-mile series.

Now in Team Wheelbase colours, he knocked more than half a minute off his previous best for the course to finish first overall in 21.00.

Lee Suthard was the first Weaver Valley rider to finish, posting 23.05, while Jim Williams was third in 24.39.

Ex-elite racer Jo Blakeley was the fastest female, timing 26.21, while Weaver Valley’s Emily Martin continued her improvement by clocking 27.03.

Alistair Stanway was one of two Weaver Valley riders to complete the Warrington Road Club 50 on Saturday.

He battled hard in the final 10 miles to finish inside the top 30 overall in 2:02.48, while veteran Alan Shuttleworth timed 2:31.07 on a fixed-wheel bike.

Winner Charles Taylor (Team Bottrill) stopped the clock at 1:45.55.
