A SUPERHERO will be visiting Age UK stores across east Cheshire to celebrate National Volunteers Week.

The charity hopes that the event will encourage people across the borough to volunteer and help the charity to support older people.

Volunteers’ week is an annual celebration marking the contribution that millions of volunteers make across the UK, and will take place this year from June 1 to June 12.

It is estimated that over 21 million people volunteer in the UK at least once a year, contributing an estimated £23.9bn to the UK economy.

At Age UK Cheshire East, volunteers are the lifeblood of the organisation, with over 220 volunteers contributing in excess of 55,000 hours of their own time each year, helping the charity deliver its vital services for older people.

The charity’s volunteer co-ordinator will be visiting its own charity’s shops, dressed as a superhero to speak to people interested in volunteering and speak to people about services offered.

“There are many roles which people could help support us with their time” said Mike Daws, the charity’s volunteer co-ordinator and superhero for the week.

“We have a wide variety of volunteering roles and time commitments available, and best of all, you will not only get to meet some great people, but you will also be providing a valuable service for older people. You truly will be our very own superhero.”

Touring Age UK Cheshire East’s shops during volunteer week, Superhero Mike will be in Alderley Edge on June 3 and Knutsford on June 7 between 10am and 2pm.
