TO celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday, Knutsford Town Council has planted an oak tree in her honour.

The council’s events committee has planted the tree at Higher Town Green on Chelford Road.

The Lord Lieutenant of Cheshire, David Briggs MBE, dedicated the tree to the Queen in a ceremony on her actual birthday, Thursday April 21.

The tree was planted by the Knutsford Town Mayor, Cllr Tony Dean who said “It was a delight to plant the tree in the Queen’s honour to recognise her many years of public service. I hope I live to 90.”

The events committee considered a number of locations for the Oak tree to be planted and took advice from Bartletts Tree Experts to ensure that the location chosen was suitable for the tree to ‘remain and prosper’ for years.

The events committee considered numerous locations in the town for the oak tree to be planted and took advice from Barletts Tree Experts to ensure that the location chosen was suitable and most likely to allow the tree to ‘remain and prosper’, continuing to mark the occasion in the town for hundreds of years.

Cllr Andrew Malloy, chairman of the council events committee, added: “The Committee wanted to recognise this significant birthday of our Monarch and thought the planting of an oak tree was an appropriate and lasting way to do so.”

The town council has also produced a Street Party Guide to help Knutsford residents plan parties to celebrate the occasion across the weekend of June 11 and 12, when the Queen will celebrate her official 90th birthday and the Patron’s Lunch will take place on the Mall.

Cllr Malloy added “A street party is a great opportunity to engage with your neighbours and celebrate this national event together. We hope this guide makes organising a street party easier for the Town’s residents.”
