FOLLOWING new management, Tabley Tearoom may be granted a licence to sell alcohol and play music seven days a week.

The café, which is located in the iconic Tabley House on Chester Road, is currently open from Thursday to Sunday from midday to 5pm.

But after being taken over by Debbie Townsend, who owns Victoriana Tearoom on King Street in Knutsford, the tearoom could be licensed to serve alcoholic beverages, particularly for those having weddings at the venue.

Debbie told the Guardian: “We can continue to operate on the hours that we have now and also do private functions outside our normal opening times.

“It would be great for small private parties or small wedding receptions who want afternoon tea.

“A lot of people go and look at the main house as a wedding venue and if they wish they could choose to have afternoon tea and a glass of champagne. We have applied for a multitude of reasons.”

Tabley House Collection Tearoom, situated in the Old Hall Room of the Grade I listed mansion currently serves light refreshments, sandwiches, cakes and afternoon tea.

“I only took over on March 24,” added Debbie. “We serve homemade hearty food. It’s like a little sanctuary. We are really trying to put it on the map.”

Since taking ownership, Debbie has already made steps to involve the community, hosting a charity event on Thursday, April 14 where free cakes and refreshments were served and guests were encouraged to make contributions.

“It was absolutely fantastic,” said Debbie. “We had a full house for the whole time it was going on. We made more than £300 and all of the proceeds are going to Warrington Animal Welfare.”
