KNUTSFORD 1st Scouts have voiced their delight that the annual Rotary Jog will be raising money for their bid to build a new headquarters on the Moor.

The Knutsford Rotarians announced in the Guardian two weeks ago that they would be raising money for the appeal as part of the annual event taking place on the Moor on Sunday, March 13.

The Scouts launched their appeal in 2015 and have since received planning permission for the new hut – but now need funds to make it a reality.

Martin Relton, district commissioner of Knutsford and surrounding Scouts, and 1st Knutsford Scouts led by Rob Allen said they were 'delighted' that the funds would be donated to their appeal.

"Now that we have the planning permission by Cheshire East Council all that stands in our way is fundraising all the money," Martin said.

"We are currently fundraising £160,000 and we will have many boy and girls from Explorers, Scouts, Beavers, Cubs and their families taking part on the day and from now filling in their sponsorship forms.

"In addition, Girl Guiding will once again take place from 1st Knutsford once the new HQ is built for Girl Guides, Brownies and Rainbows so we welcome Girls Guides supporting us as they did for our planning application.

"1st Knutsford Scouts have been existence in Knutsford for 100 years and as the one of the oldest Scout groups nationally we want to offer our children of Knutsford and surrounding areas adequate facilities.

"The new hut will cater for limited mobility and disability from an access and toilet perspective and will be adequately heated, ventilated and light. The main hall will have views over the Moor in the heart of Knutsford."

Ken Jones, from Knutsford Rotary Club, added: "The Scouts and Guides need desperately a new larger HQ building 500 young people in the Knutsford area belong to Scouting and associated organisations.

"Scouting is very much an organisation that is run by volunteers who help with all activities, which encourages young people and adults to develop and learn whilst having fun."

The Knutsford Jog takes place on Sunday, March 13. Registration at 9.30am, start time of the jog at 10.30am, with the event taking place for one hour.
