A KNUTSFORD nursing home is undergoing refurbishment at a substantial 'six-figure cost' as it starts a new chapter of its history under new owners.

Sharston House, which was bought by Kingsley Healthcare from the Walker family in November, is being restored to its former glory with an extensive interior makeover.

Hazel Croston, who has recently taken over as manager, said: “We are addressing the state of the décor and replacing flooring, carpets and furniture.

“We are also replacing the chandeliers with something that does not collect as much dust but which will retain the grand feel of our lounges and dining room.

“We are involving the residents who live here in all the decisions we are making about the new decor.”

The stately Victorian house - a nursing home for more than half a century - was acquired by Suffolk-based Kingsley as part of a multi-million pound deal involving the purchase of Redwalls nursing home in Sandiway as well.

Hazel, who has been a nurse for 34 years, brings extensive management experience to her new role.

Last year, she won the North West nurse of the year award in the British Care Awards.

Her ambitions for the future include the introduction of far more outings and events for residents.

She said: “I am already working on a programme of events to involve the whole community.

"We are planning to involve residents, their families, health professionals and anyone else who wants to take part in a Great Sharston Bake Off in March and will be hosting a Victorian afternoon tea party later in the year.”
