A KNUTSFORD based company has won a national award for its ‘Star Trek-style’ lift to help people lead an independent home life.

Terry Lifts a manufacturer of home lifts, platform lifts and step lifts, which has a head office and factory on Longridge Trading Estate, has won the Independent Living Design award at the British Healthcare Trades Association Awards.

The BHTA Awards were given in recognition of companies, products and individuals who are supporting people to live more independently.

It was also highly commended for the best product and the service innovation award.

John McSweeney, marketing and export director at Terry Lifts, said: “We are delighted and honoured to receive this recognition”, John said. “It is a great culmination of the success we’ve had over the past 3 years since the product’s launch.

“People want an option to stair lifts, which can be unsightly and block the staircase,” added John. “A home lift can become a feature element of the house besides making life so much easier.

“We’ve had a great influx of enquiries with strong interest both in the domestic and the export market.”

Terry Lifts launched the elevator in 2012 after noticing a gap in the market for a new kind of home lift.

The lift is one of the first compact home elevators in the market which takes no more space than an armchair and can be easily installed within just a couple of days.

The independent judging panel, chaired by Ray Hodgkinson MBE the director of public affairs at BHTA described the Lifestyle Lift as “an innovative residential lift that allows people to lead an independent life at home; with a small footprint, it is easy to use and looks elegant."
