KNUTSFORD fire fighters and fire cadets have been showing just what they are made of with a series of impressive training sessions.

Firefighters based at the station on Mobberley Road have been taking part in rope rescue training, which enables them to form the technical line rescue team for Cheshire.

As a result of this intensive training, the crew is able to go to rescues in lift shafts, tower cranes, cliffs and high buildings.

A spokesperson for Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “Our firefighters train regularly. The Knutsford crew are trained in animal rescue, rope rescue and rescue from height, so they have additional areas of expertise over and above firefighting.”

On top of the rope rescue training, the two Watches at Knutsford have recently taken a ‘swift water’ rescue course, and is being equipped for with water rescue equipment so that it is fully prepared in case of an emergency on water.

But it is not just the firefighters who are learning new skills.

The crew joined with the Knutsford fire cadets at their weekly training session Monday, January 18 to lend a hand in teaching them how to cut casualties out of cars.

Alpha Watch introduced the Fire Cadets to Holmatro cutting equipment, the specialist tools used at road traffic incidents to cur causalities from cars and other vehicles.

The youngsters were also given a talk about procedures carried out at traffic incidents.

All of this comes just days before a large-scale operation organised by Knutsford firefighters, with crews from Greater Manchester and across Cheshire.

The training session, which is taking place at the Costain headquarters on the A556, will see fire crews simulating large scale rescues.

The station is currently recruiting on-call firefighters to join the team.

Deadline for applications for the July 2016 is February 28.
