Holmes Chapel 11
Oswestry 2nd 8
CAPTAIN Dom Moss praised his players' adaptability after they squeezed past Oswestry in dreadful conditions.
It keeps them six points clear of closest rivals Whitchurch thirds in the North West Intermediate League's Division Four South.
"They came with a strong pack, but we proved we could cope," he said.
"Sometimes you have to win ugly and that's what we did."
Moss himself was sent to the sin bin, while Jim Moss was forced from the field with a rib injury, during a difficult opening.
However Chapel rallied, and Gavin Paton barged through to touch down their only try of the afternoon.
He thumped over a penalty too, but Oswestry reduced their arrears when they made the most of a clever kick to score a try.
A three-pointer restored parity for the visitors in the second period, although Paton's second penalty of the contest proved decisive following the introduction of Neil Almond and veteran Jon Griffin.
