PUPILS from Wilmslow High School have spent time discussing the effects of climate change.

20 pupils attended the Oxfam World Shapers launch event, at AstraZeneca's Alderley Park Conference Centre for a day of learning.

They were joined by pupils from Poynton High School, Middlewich High School and Knutsford Academy to help develop an understanding about the human impact of climate change, and in which they were encouraged to be inspired and supportive in taking action to reduce their own carbon footprint.

During the day the pupils enjoyed a range of activities and sessions which encouraged them to think about climate change and share ideas with one another.

This was followed by individual presentations at the site's auditorium about the things they had learnt and how they intended to make changes to their lives to protect the things they loved from climate change.

According to WHS staff, the pupils came back from an inspiring day determined to make a difference and impart their acquired knowledge on the issue to their peers at school.

Liz Newbon, Oxfam's education and youth advisor said "Climate change is already having a huge impact on millions of people all over the world, making it an urgent issue to resolve.

"The event provided a fantastic opportunity for the students to learn and think critically about the human impact of climate change, as well as to consider what action can be taken. A big well done to all the students involved!"

Mr Maw, head of Norcliffe House said β€œIt was great to see students engage in mature discussions around this global campaign and the impact of climate change with other school councils from partner schools.

"Having free use of the conference centre really made the day for the students.”
