AGE UK has launched the next stage of its Christmas 2015 partnership with John Lewis to call for support for older people who can go a month without speaking to anyone.

The fundraising appeal, narrated by Dame Helen Mirren, highlights how viewers can make a difference and help Age UK to tackle loneliness this Christmas.

Age UK Cheshire East is now calling on local people to help it fundraise locally in the lead up to Christmas.

Damon Taylor, chief officer at Age UK Cheshire East said: “Loneliness is a huge issue that affects people all year round however, we know that the festive season can be a particularly difficult time.

"That’s why we are also calling on the local community to join us in taking action.

"There are a number of ways you can help us tackle loneliness locally; by donating, volunteering and signing our petition you can help older people to enjoy the festive season and the year to come.”

Age UK Cheshire East has lots of generous support from individuals and businesses in the community which are holding their own festive events including shopping events and ‘Jazzy Jumper’ days.

Barclays is showing its continued support for Age UK Cheshire East by hosting their annual Christmas lunch for over 100 older people.

With more than one million older people saying they haven’t spoken to a friend, neighbour or family member for over a month, Age UK Cheshire East recognises that loneliness is a huge issue which affects people all year round.
