AFTER more than two decades, Mobberley Morris dancers, Ringheye Morris, have decided to ‘up sticks’ and relocate to Knutsford.

The group, which started in Mobberley in 1983, has practised at the former Pepper Chapel and the Victory Hall but will now move their sessions to the Brook Street Club.

Ringheye Morris has called Knutsford ‘the heart of the catchment area of the lively north west Morris team’.

James Kidd, squire of the group, said: “We are hoping the move will flush out some new recruits. We have a lot of fun. We go out dancing regularly and we away once a year and have a great time. That’s what Morris dancing is all about.”

The dancers take part in the Royal May Day Procession, performing their routine called Mallory’s March, named after Mobberley-born George Mallory who died on Mount Everest in 1924.

Other venues include Rose Queen festivals, dance festivals and pubs across the region.

Ringheye Morris practice most Wednesday evenings at 8pm in the Brook Street Club near the junction with Mobberley Road.

New dancers and musicians are welcome at any time but there will be two special beginner taster sessions on November 25 and December 2 at 8pm.
