A SPONSORED hymn sing by members of the Brook Street Chapel congregation is the latest in a string of fundraising events aimed at raising £10,000 to pay for emergency repairs to the Grade I listed building.

Organised by Jean Littler, 'Sing for the Chapel', gives people the opportunity to sponsor their favourite hymn chosen by the members or choose their own favourite and have it added to the song list.

"We are happy to sing any hymns chosen by the public - we just hope to raise a lot of money and raise everyone's spirits with a good sing," said Jean.

The emergency repairs had to be made after oak beams supporting the gallery inside the chapel were found to have partially disintegrated. This was caused by an infestation of Death Watch Beetle.

"We had no alternative but to repair the beams immediately for safety reasons and to keep the chapel open," said treasurer, Alan Eastwood.

“We are presently appealing for support and are delighted to have received a £1,500 grant from Knutsford Town Council to help preserve the heritage of the Grade 1 listed building. Significant contributions have also been received from the Knutsford Lions and the Gaskell Society.”

The members of Brook Street Chapel are dedicated to maintaining the chapel as it was built, and preserve it for future generations. People of all faiths are welcome to worship in the chapel which is also used for many non-religious events including concerts, dramas, exhibitions, talks, discussions and mindfulness sessions.

Everyone is welcome to 'Sing for the Chapel' from around 1pm on Sunday 11 October at Brook Street Chapel.
