IT’S been eight months since Sue Addison appeared in the Knutsford Guardian highlighting her work as a volunteer English teacher in Cambodia.

In that time, the mum-of-four has returned to the Asian country four times and, having just got home from her most recent trip, is now planning the next visit at the beginning of November.

Sue, who is a former pharmacist and gave up her job at Christmas 2013 due to stress, is living off her savings while she visits Cambodia and yet has donated £10,000 to help to buy the land for a new school to be built in place of Treak Community Centre, which is 4km from Siem Reap, following the expiration of the lease on the current site.

Sue is now trying to raise enough money to build the new school, which will cost around US $50,000, which is the equivalent of £30,000.

The school provides english and IT lessons to over 300 children and teenagers and has 60 nursery places for children from the most disadvantaged families in the village.

The new building will accommodate healthcare awareness lessons and vocational training for the women in the village.

Sue fell in love with Cambodia during a trip in early 2014 and then couldn’t settle back in to Knutsford and has spent eight of the last 16 months working at the centre.

She said: “I am absolutely committed to my work at Treak Community Centre and I have now been given the additional role of volunteer coordinator.

“It’s a very tough task and we have a lot of money to raise.

“Each trip is emotionally draining and I always come back home feeling exhausted.”

Sue has brought back some tea towels featuring artwork created by a 19-year-old student from the as well as greetings cards which are all on sale at Victoriana Vintage Tearooms on King Street.

She has also brought back some bricks that will be used to build the school, which are also on display.

£10 buys 250 bricks and the group need about 60,000 to complete the building.

Tea towels are priced at £10 every penny of which goes towards construction.
