A CELEBRATION of country life is coming to Tatton Park over the August Bank Holiday with a weekend of traditional Cheshire fayre.

From Saturday August 29 to Monday August 31 the annual family festival will showcase traditional farm practices and local craftsmen as well as providing entertainment for all of the family.

Held at Tatton Park’s farm the fair is now firmly established as one of the Estate’s most popular events.

Visitors will have the opportunity to admire the produce of various exhibitors and artists, who will give them an insight into their expert techniques.

There will also be plenty of activities for children, including plate-spinning and uni-cycling at the circus skills workshop and a number of traditional games

Jayne Chapman, farm manager, said: “The Country Fayre goes from strength to strength with ferret racing and a Scottish piping band new for this year, there really is something for all the family to enjoy over the weekend.’’

Home Farm is set in a corner of the Park know as Tatton Dale and was, in its heyday, at the heart of the Egerton estate, feeding family, guests and staff at the mansion using traditional rural farm practices and animals.

The farm’s old traction engine and steam engine have been restored and visitors will be able to see them both operating during the weekend as well as all the farm animals including pigs, horses, donkeys, goats and poultry.

Visitors are invited to watch traditional Morris dancing and on Sunday, be entertained by the skill of the sheep dog with local sheepdog trainer Peter Hallam.

Traders from across the region will be attending including Wells Foods, Great Budworth ice cream and there will be Tatton’s own produced delicacies from the Housekeeper’s Store.

Ticket prices start from £6 for an adult, and £4 for children.
