The Manchester Grammar School (MGS) is celebrating its best ever GCSE results. 70% of all grades awarded were at the coveted A*, and 92% of grades were A* or A. This is the third successive year that MGS pupils have achieved 90% or over at A*/A, a truly exceptional performance.
Outstanding results were achieved from a number of people living in the Knutsford area. These included Ruaidhri Power (10 A*s) and George Buckley who was awarded 9 A*s and 2 A grades.
Speaking of his success, George said: “These results are better than I could have hoped for. I am thrilled that I have secured A*s in the subjects I want to study at A Level – Maths, Chemistry, Biology and Geography.” George hopes to become a vet.
Added Ruaidhri, who is 16 and from Knutsford: “I am very happy indeed, especially after all of my hard work.” Rupert will now study English, History, Politics and Drama at A Level, with a view to pursuing a law or history degree at university.
More than one in five MGS boys achieved straight A* grades, and two thirds of the year group gained seven or more A*s.
This follows another year of outstanding A Level results, with a third of all A-level grades being awarded A* - another record for the School. The High Master, Dr Martin Boulton, commented, “These are truly remarkable results which place MGS in a very select group of schools nationally. I am immensely proud and delighted that the hard work of our boys and staff has been rewarded.”
