AN OUTRAGED vandal has attacked a Knutsford town centre bank, smashing four of the windows with his bare hands and leaving a trail of blood through the streets.

The 47-year-old man was arrested on Sunday evening after losing his temper and attacking the Royal Bank of Scotland when his bank card was swallowed by the ATM.

Police have confirmed that the vandal was arrested for criminal damage and has since received a conditional caution.

According to an anonymous witness, the man had been drinking ‘all day’ before heading over to the cash machine to withdraw some money.

When his card didn’t come out of the ATM, the man reportedly lost his temper and smashed through the glass with his fists.

He then disappeared from the scene, leaving a trail of blood behind him as he made his way round the corner to Princess Street, where he was apprehended by police officers.

Paramedics were called to the scene just after 8pm, and took the offender to Macclesfield Hospital where he received treatment for his injuries.

A spokesperson for Cheshire Police said: “The team responded quickly to a report of criminal damage to a cash machine.

“On arrival the male suspect was placated, arrested and taken to hospital for his injuries before being transported to custody.

“Incidents of antisocial behaviour in public places will not be tolerated and will always be responded to promptly and dealt with robustly.”

The man has now been released on a conditional caution, and will not be charged unless the terms of his release are breached.

The smashed windows at RBS have since been boarded up but the bank was not available to comment by the time the Guardian went to press.
