STUDENTS at Holmes Chapel Comprehensive are celebrating their A level results today, with many now heading to the country’s top universities.

Sixth formers at the college achieved an outstanding pass rate of 99.7% with 80% gaining A*-C grades.

Many of the students will now be heading to prestigious universities including Cambridge, Leeds, Lancaster York and Imperial College London.

For those who have chosen to take up employment, apprenticeships have now been offered in finance, IT and retail companies.

Denis Oliver, executive head teacher said: “This has been another outstandingly successful year.

“Our students have worked incredibly hard, gaining their challenging target grades in a wide range of subjects from science and maths to art and photography.

“They have also achieved these results while playing an active role in the sport, music, extra-curricular and leadership opportunities at the school.

“This has helped to develop enthusiastic, confident and independent global citizens now ready to make the most of the opportunities for the next steps of their lifelong learning journey.”

Among the successes were head boy, Harry Thompson, who achieved three A*s and head girl, Pip Michell whose hard work led to A*AB.

Harry said: “I’m feeling very good about my results. I didn’t expect to do so well. I thought I might get the grades to get in but I was never expecting three A stars.

“I worked really hard so the hard work has paid off.”

Harry, who studied maths, further maths and economics, will now take his place at Exeter University to study an economics degree.

“I would like to go into banking or development economics,” he said: “I have liked the idea for a while now.

“I won’t forget it here at Holmes Chapel. I have loved it here. I have been here since year seven and really gotten to know the teachers. It’s been a really great experience.”

Pip, who also achieved outstanding grades, will move to Leeds in September to study human physiology.

She said: “I am really excited for university. I have always enjoyed biology. There’s a lot of interesting careers.

“I might go to work in a hospital, and become a nurse or something along those lines.

“I want to thank the teachers who have helped me. They couldn’t have done anything more. They were amazing every step of the way.

“I was always the student who stayed behind and handed in extra work closer to exams. They never got sick of me.

“I have absolutely loved my experience at the school.”
